This list is some of the the prizes, merchant and privateer, taken by United States warships: along with the list of the captured crews.

On the 10 th August [1812] being off Cape Race I fell in with a light merchant brig bound to Halifax, from Newfoundland, and as she was not worth sending in, I took the crew on board, and set her on fire. On the 11 th I fell in with the British Brig Adeona from Nova Scotia, bound to England loaded with timber I took the crew out of her , and set her on fire.

….At 2PM we brought too the chace and found her to be the American brig Adeline, from Liverpool, loaded with dry goods and prize to the British Sloop of War Avenger. I took the British prize-master, and crew out of and put Midshipman Madison [John R. Madison] and a crew on board, with orders to get into the nearest port he could make.

9th June 1813, Brig Kitty*, of Greenock, Robert Love, Master, of 2 guns and 11 men, from Newfoundland bound to Alicante with cargo of Cod fish – Ordered her for France

10th June 1813 Packet, Brig Duke of Montrose, A.G. Blewett, Commander, of 12 guns and 34 men, from Falmouth bound to Halifax: Sent her to England, as a Cartel, with 78 Prisoners.

11th June 1813 Letter of Marque Brig Maria, of Port Glasgow, John Bald, Master, of 14 guns and 35 men, from Newfoundland bound to Spain, with cargo of Cod fish: Ordered her for France.

12th June Schooner Falcon, of Guernsey, John Manger, Master of 2 guns and 10 men, from Newfoundland bound to Spain with cargo of Cod fish: Ordered her for France.

12July Brig Jean and Ann, of Saltcoats, Robert Caldwell, Master, from Cork bound to Archangel in ballast, took out her crew and sunk her.

18th July Brig Daphne of Whitby, William Gales, Master, of 2 guns and 9 men, from South Shields bound to Archangel in ballast, took out her crew and sunk her.

24th July Ship Eliza Swan, of Montrose, John Young, Master, of 8 guns and 48 men, from a Greenland whaling voyage, bound to Montrose withy Fish and Blubber ransomed her for £5000 Sterling.

29th July Brig Alert, of Peterhead, George Shand, Master, from Archangel bound to Oporto [via England] with a cargo of Pitch and Tar: took out her crew and burnt her.

2nd August 1813 Barque Lion, of Liverpool. Thomas Hawkins, Master, of 8 guns and 52 men, from a Greenland Whaling Voyage bound to Liverpool, with Fish and Blubber – ransomed her for £3000 Sterling.

30th August Hermaphrodite Brig Shannon, of St. Kitts, John Perhings, Master, from St. Kitts bound to London, with a cargo of Run, Sugar and Molasses – ordered her for the United States.

9th September Brig Fly of Bermuda, James Bowey, Master, of 6 Guns and 9 men, from Jamaica bound to London with a cargo of Coffee: ordered her to the United States.

* Kitty was recaptured on the 20 th June by Dart, a privateer from Guernsey. For the circumstances surrounding her loss, see Midshipman Joel Abbot to Rogers, 22 Oct. 1813, in DNA, RG45, BC, 1813. Vol. 4.No. 51 (M148, Roll No.12). Abbot was member of Kitty’s prize crew.
