6 th February 1813 by HMS Peruvian

These are to certify the Honourable Principal Officers and Commissioners of His Majesty’s Navy and all others whom it may concern, that this day personally came and appeared before me, Major General F.I.G. Maclean Lieutenant Governor of the Island of St. Thomas St. Johns and their dependencies Vice Admiral of the same etc.

James M. Fairfield, Captain, Ebenezer Mercam first lieutenant, Neil C. Lemon second lieutenant on board of the American privateer ship called the John of Salem and voluntarily made oath on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God that they were on board the said ship John on the 6 th February 1813 when the said ship John was captured by His Majesty’s sloop Peruvian whereof George Kippen Esq., is commander and these deponents did further make oath that there were actually on board of and belonging to the said ship John ninety officers and seamen at the time she was captured and taken.
